An Unlikely Hero

Ladies and Gentlemen, I would like to introduce to you our hero: Jack Marshall.

Jack is a young man raised on a farm in the Mid-Atlantic region. He planned to follow his father’s footpath, but wanted more than the simple family-owned homestead. He went to the state college and earned his degree in agriculture, with a minor in business management.

His plan for a family farming empire took a detour when he entered the military as a second lieutenant and served in the conflict of the day. Wounded, he returned to the farm, married, and settled in to the life he dreamed on for many years.

The rural setting seemed to fit Jack perfectly. He had a sense of inner harmony and hobbies that fit the outdoor living he always enjoyed. He became devoted to worthy causes, and energy and passion drove his vision for his life. While he met the needs of the farm duties, many day to day matters fell to his flexibility. Jack often avoided conflict, when possible.

Jack found energy from his introspection. Too much of social gatherings tired Jack quickly. He could easily look to the future and the “what-if” in the world around him. He came across as compassionate, Sympathetic, and sensitive to others. Yet, he didn’t present as a very structured person. In fact, to many, Jack seemed flighty–almost mystical. Action could help in his staying directed.

Jack tended to be somewhat perfectionistic, and might not always notice what went on around him. He sometimes became negative, with a slight tendency toward a level of depression.

Jack enjoys hiking, hunting, and fishing. His tastes in reading and music cross several lines.

He sounds like the boy next door, right? He has his pros and his cons. He held a leadership position, and his men followed him willingly. But he was not your typical combat officer. Everywhere Jack turned, his life seemed to run into roadblocks and detours. Something needed to change for Jack. And something did.
